Well, the marquees are gone, the banners are down and the grass in Harmony Garden is recovering! It all feels a bit like a dream; was Joanna Lumley really on the stage in the Festival Marquee? Did we really have Pat Barker, Hilary Mantel, Anthony Quinn and Tan Twan Eng appearing at the Festival? Surely Dr Clarkson from Downton Abbey didn’t read Walter Scott’s ‘The Lay of the Last Minstrel’ with the rest of the ‘Bowhill Players’? Yes indeed, it all happened at the 2013 Brewin Dolphin Borders Book Festival...

Lucky 13th it certainly was - a record breaking year in Melrose; including 1,900+ children attending Schools Gala Day on day one and over 25,000 thousand visitors joining us in the Gardens. The twelfth Brewin Dolphin Borders Book Festival couldn’t have got off to a better start! The sun shone down as we welcomed around 1600 children for the fabulous Knight Frank Schools Gala Day...
What a week it was...

Rain? What rain? It was an unquenchably wonderful weekend and what happened in the marquees was simply stunning.

Even before the book festival had started, ticket sales had broken all records and by the end of the weekend nearly 12,000 people had been through the gates to see some highly entertaining and thought provoking events.
