A History of the Melrose 7’s
June 18 at 6:45 pm - 7:45 pm
In 1883 two Melrose butchers, Ned Haig and Davie Sanderson, came up with an idea. Funds could be raised to save their rugby club by holding a Sports Day to include a seven-a-side tournament of shortened games. The credit for the rugby element went to Ned Haig and Melrose Sevens was born at the Greenyards. The book records meticulously every single tie between 1883 and 2016 and it provides fascinating memories of great teams and great players. Melrose RFC invented Sevens – now a worldwide and Olympic sport. Event will be in conversation with author Ian Cooper.
