In Leaving Alexandria: A Memoir of Faith and Doubt, Richard Holloway recounts a remarkable life. Leaving home in Alexandria in the Vale of Leven at the age of 14, he began training for the priesthood but his faith was increasingly eroded by crisis. Wonderfully well reviewed, this is also an enquiry as well as a memoir; a journey without the certainty of a destination; a piece of astonishingly beautiful writing.
