Special Screening of The Thirty-Nine Steps
As arguably the best Richard Hannay, Robert Powell will join us on Saturday 18 June to talk about his experiences in making a movie from the classic John Buchan thriller, The Thirty-Nine Steps. As an added bonus you can see a special screening of the film at The Wynd Theatre, Melrose on Tuesday 14 June. For full details visit www.thewynd.com

Not every author can make the dates of the Borders Book Festival – but they do want to come to Scotland. Last month the great American crime writer and creator of the legendary Chicago private investigator, VI Warshawski, Sara Paretsky, came to Peebles to talk about her work at the Eastgate Theatre. It was a superb session, the sort of event that used to bypass the Borders and 80 people were fascinated by Sara’s insights and delighted to meet her afterwards.
The Borders Book Festival occasionally mounts special occasions like this, and in the last year Margaret Drabble has come to Melrose and in the past we have had Kate Adie, Mary Contini, and in Kelso Alexander McCall Smith did a lovely pre-Christmas launch of one of his books.
Throughout the year the festival bubbles along and outside of our dates in June we hope to add something to the literary life of the Borders. We never close, so don’t forget to keep an eye out for some more special events in the future!
