Write On! Writing Competition Awards 2011

Well done to everyone who took part in the fourth annual Write On! Writing Competition and our congratulations go especially to each of this year's winners!

Created by Scottish Borders Libraries and the Borders Book Festival, the competition celebrates the talent of young writers in the Scottish Borders. This year, hundreds of schoolchildren from over 30 Borders schools submitted stories ranging from a variety of topics including modern-day fairytales, strange encounters and animal wonders. The competition judges were very impressed with the quality of writing from the entrants, which made it incredibly difficult for them to choose the overall winners.

The awards event which took place at the Brewin Dolphin Borders Book Festival on Saturday 18 June was introduced by Councillor John Paton-Day and hosted by two of today’s best-loved children’s writers, and Festival Patrons Vivian French and Eleanor Updale, who also presented the winners and runners-up with their prizes.

Prizes included medals, books, and tickets for winners and their friends and families to go to an event at the Family Book Festival. The first prize winners also won the opportunity to see their stories in print in the Southern Reporter and on the Borders Book Festival and SBC Libraries websites.
